How much does it cost?
PhotoAdvent is free.
Why should I create an account?
If you are visiting someone else's calendar, there is no need to create an account. But you must create an account if you wish to create your own calendar. Creating an account on PhotoAdvent creates a special web address for you to share your calendar with friends and family.
Are there any limitations on the size of picture I can use?
Yes and no. There is a limit on the file size of a picture - 2 megabytes. Pictures larger than this will not be uploaded. If your camera defaults to taking extremely large picture files, you may need to resize them before you upload them.
In general, the dimensions of the picture do not matter. When it imports a picture, PhotoAdvent automatically resizes its copy of the picture to a size useful on the web, so it doesn't really care about the dimensions of your original picture.
The exceptions to this are pictures uploaded for use in the background. Backgrounds have a required dimension of 800x600. This is a 4:3 ratio. If your picture does not meet this requirement (for example because it's vertical rather than horizontal) it should work, but your calendar may look a little funny.
Will you do anything with my contact information?
No. Your contact information is kept strictly confidential. We do not sell, rent, or give out your information. See our privacy policy for more information.
Is PhotoAdvent religious?
The content of PhotoAdvent depends mainly on your pictures. By itself PhotoAdvent is not religious. The default background picture displays a snow scene. Beyond that, the content is up to you. YChange the background and the pictures to match your own vision.
How does the web version differ from previous versions?
PhotoAdvent has been around a long time. It began as a shareware/service in 1999. The very first versions of PhotoAdvent were built around the premise that people would send in physical copies of their pictures. We would then scan the pictures and create a special personalized application.
Beginning with version 2.0, PhotoAdvent users could import their own pictures and customize PhotoAdvent themselves. The price was $20. The application ran identically on Windows (95 and XP) and on Macintosh (OS 9).
The web version of PhotoAdvent is significantly superior to previous versions. Because it runs in a browser, it can be run on virtually any platform. Because it's on the web, it's easy to share with family and friends. The pictures are much larger - they used to be limited to 100 pixels x 100 pixels. The only thing the previous version did that the current version doesn't do at this point is perform some small screensaver-like animations when the program is left unattended. Best of all, it's free!
In the unlikely event that you are still using the freeware version of PhotoAdvent, you can find the FAQ for this here.
